The Annual Village Meeting of 2025 was a great success!

We received information from PC Mo Mir from the Neighbourhood Policing Team, Cllr Alison Eastwood from West Northamptonshire Council, and Rachel Wheeler on behalf of First Helmdon Guides.

Mo gave an update in regards to crime in the area, what happens when a crime is reported, and advised that Helmdon had 6 reported crimes in February 2025. Some residents were interested in knowing more about the types of crime committed. Mo directed residents to the www.police.uk website where you can see a map of the area and zoom in to see the crime types, and locations within various timescales that you can specify. Mo also gave residents advice about what to do should they see an active burglary, and gave some suggestions as to how to try to prevent vehicle theft. Information was provided about https://www.northamptonshiretalking.co.uk which is a is a free messaging service from Northamptonshire Police, Northamptonshire Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner and other partner organisations, providing news and updates on policing matters that are relevant to residents.

Secondly, Alison Eastwood gave her report regarding the activities of West Northamptonshire Council over the last year. The full report can be found published below.

Rachel Wheeler talked about how the guides have used their grant received from the Parish Council to subsidise some of the things they do such as going to the scout camp in Oxford in May 2024 with some of the funds being used to improve their gas burners for the camp, along with a number of other resources needed to run their activities including cooking, an Easter Sleepover, making bird boxes, snorkelling, scuba diving, and a panto visit amongst other things.

Councillor Moody reminded residents about the Parish Plan Survey that currently has had only 90 responses out of a potential 1000 (if all residents responded) with only around a week to the deadline so please get your responses in asap as we really need to know what it is that you want in the village in order to be able to work towards providing that for you.

Councillor Moody also updated the residents about the current planning enforcement case on the Helmdon Old Station Local Wildlife Site (HOSLWS) which came in from West Northamptonshire Council today. The update can be found in the documents below.

We expressed our thanks to our volunteers who complete lots of work on behalf of the village and thanks to our retiring councillors Faye Holloway, Steve Wheeler, and Billie Minshall.

Thank you to all residents for their questions for Mo and Alison and more importantly for your attendance. It is very important to the council that we hear your opinions, concerns and feedback as we can move forward improving the village together as a community.
