Please recycle your batteries! 600 million batteries are thrown away in the UK every year. Thats enough to reach to Australia and back! If batteries are put in the black bin, they can catch fire in the truck or the refuse facility during compaction. Once in landfill, they leak toxic residue into the surrounding soil. Batteries can be placed in a small clear bag and attached to the lid of the blue or black Wheelie bin, or taken to all large grocery stores as well as some schools, libraries and tourist attractions.
When recycled, many of the battery components can be recovered and used again.
