Community Act of Remembrance – Sunday 8 November ![]()
Helmdon Parish Council warmly invites everyone in the village to join us at the War Memorial this Remembrance Sunday, as we come together to remember all those who have lost their lives in military service, and all whose lives have been affected by war and conflict.
Where: Helmdon War Memorial
When: Sunday 8 November 2026
Time: Please arrive by 10.45am for a 10.50am start
Duration: About 20 minutes
This year’s service will be a civic, non-religious Act of Remembrance led by the parish council. There will be no hymns or prayers. Over the years, some residents have told us they would like to come to the memorial but would feel more comfortable at a non-religious service, so we hope this year will encourage them to come along. Everyone is very welcome, whatever their faith or beliefs.
We are delighted that a representative of the United States Air Force will be joining us. They will read the names of the ten American airmen who died when their B-17 came down at Astwell in 1943, and will lay a wreath at their memorial beside our own.
A collection will be taken for the Royal British Legion, and all donations are very gratefully received.
Afterwards, everyone is warmly invited to join us at the Fat Landlord for light refreshments.
We hope to see as many of you there as possible.
We will remember them.
